The wild world of men’s grooming has certainly undergone extreme and dramatic changes throughout human history. Think back to European History class. Remember those pictures of guys standing around in high heels and powdered wigs? Yup, those guys used to be considered both fashionable and attractive by the ladies of that time period.
Nowadays, male body hair and pubic hair (or lack of it) has become a hot topic among those in the dating pool. In order to gain a wider perspective about the topic, I hit a local club to find out the word on the streets about modern day body hair preferences.
Jessica (single, age 24) is a resort waitress from a nearby town. When asked, she was not shy about stating her opinion on manscaping, “Guys’ body hair is fine with me, except back and butt hair. That should definitely be waxed or shaved regularly.”
Noelle (single, age 31) is an owner of a local gym. She likes a fuzzier, more primal guy, “When I am in bed, I want to feel like I am with a man, not a boy. I like my men all natural. I love to run my fingers through a guy’s chest hair. And, if they happen to have a beard that is pretty sweet too.”
Melissa (single, age 39) is a technical writer for a finance company who had an interesting perspective on male grooming, “If I am with a guy for the first time and I see that he has all of his body hair intact and in full force, it tells me that he has been out of the game for a while. He is either new to the dating scene after being in a long term relationship or he just hasn’t been laid in months.”
Perhaps the most graphic and hilarious statement I heard from a fellow clubgoer on this topic came from a confident and bubbly beach bunny named Trina (single, age 22), “I wax my bikini line and eyebrows and I shave my legs and armpits. So, why would I expect less from a guy? The last thing I want to do is end up flossing with some guys pubes. Not romantic, whatsoever.”
As I expected, the answers I got to the manscaping: hot or not question were as varied as the people I interviewed. It seems as if there really is no right or wrong way for men to groom (or not groom). However, if you find yourself in a situation where you are going to be seen full monty, be confident in whatever manscaping decisions you have made.
If you have never ventured into the wild world of manscaping, this could be your chance to try something new and exciting. If you are worried about your future partner’s perspective on body hair, you can always ask them how they feel about it beforehand. Or, just take a walk on the wild side and bust out the Norelco the next time you are bored. Remember, it always grows back!
